HHI acquires a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) to research the Adriatic seabed

Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia is successful in completing the project "Joint Actions for Sea Pollution Prevention"- JASPPer, with the acquisition of a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) to the value of 101.250,00 EUR.

ROV has been provided through the funds of IPA programme, Component II (Cross-Border Coopretaion), Measure 1.1. (Joint Actions for the Protection of Environment, Nature and Cultural Heritage).

Purchase was made from the French company ECA Robotics, and included ROV training for the HHI personnel provided by ECA Robotics.

First research using a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) should start in February 2015 on board the HHI survey vessel. Experts from the Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia and the Institute for Marine and Coastal Research, together with their cross-border partners, Hydrometeorological and Seismological Service of Montenegro and Institute of Marine Biology, Kotor, will carry out underwater research in the area of sewage outfalls Cavtat in the Republic of Croatia and Trašte in Montenegro.

The research should show the effects of sewage outfalls on the sea in the cross-border area of Croatia and Montenegro.

Oceanographic and hydrographic results of the Croatian experts are expected to be integrated with the research results according to uniform methodology in the area of Trašte (Kotor and Tivat), Montenegro, in order to inform the public about the dispersion of pollution from two important sewage outfalls in the cross-border area during the high and low season.
