The Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia (HHI) has deployed a directional waverider buoy in the aquatorium of the city of Ploče, in 43°0.575'N  17°23.476'E (WGS 84 coordinate system), with a light signal (group of five yellow flashes every 20 seconds) visible 4 NM. Navigation is prohibited within a radius of 120 m from the waverider buoy.

The waverider buoy measures height, direction and period of wind-generated waves and surface temperature of the sea. The wave height data are available in real time on the HHI website https://www.hhi.hr/

The Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia has a long tradition of measuring wind-generated surface waves in the Adriatic. These measurements are carried out to ensure safe transport of people and goods in the Croatian part of the Adriatic, management of the sea and seabed resources, and environmental protection.
