Croatian President Ivo Josipović visited the Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia (HHI) in Split, where he officially opened the Museum of Hydrography. The President was received by the HHI Director Zvonko Gržetić, who pointed out the contribution of Institute to preserving the memory of the 200-year history and legacy of hydrography in the Eastern Adriatic. We are doing this for future generations, and for Croatia’s reputation as a maritime country – said Director Zvonko Gržetić. The President emphasized that the newly established museum within the Hydrographic Institute was an exhibition of friendship between man and the sea. It gives me particular pleasure, as I come from a family whose members were sailors, and I know how important for them was to have nautical charts and accurate information about the sea. Your work is so professional and outstanding, and I would like to congratulate you yourself, and the Institute, on everything that you have done so far – said President Josipović expressing his congratulations to the HHI Director Zvonko Gržetić. The newly opened Museum embraces past activities of the Institute, exhibiting the old equipment, instruments, tools, and facilities used in old days. Most of them date from the fifties of the last century. Exhibits are grouped around hydrographic, oceanographic, cartographic, information science, and reproduction sections. Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia carries out multidisciplinary research of the Adriatic Sea, collecting, analysing, and processing hydrographic and oceanographic data. The Institute is National Coordinator for informative segment of the safety of navigation, and member of the International Commission for the Protection of the Mediterranean.
