Workshop “S-100 for e-Navigation – implementation of the new standard in the Republic of Croatia” held at HHI

Workshop “S-100 for e-navigation – implementation of the new standard in the Republic of Croatia” organised by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia (HHI) and PRIMAR, was held at HHI premises in Split on 23 May 2025.

The Workshop was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, VTS Centre, Harbour master’s offices, Sea pilots, Port authorities, company Plovput d.o.o., Ministry of Physical planning, Construction and State Assets, Agency for Coastal, Liner and Maritime Traffic, Air, Maritime, and Railway Traffic Accidents Investigation Agency, representatives of faculties and others.

During their welcome speech, the representatives of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, HHI and PRIMAR highlighted the importance of cooperation of all stakeholders in the process of S-100 implementation.
The workshop provided the review of a new generation of digital products for maritime navigation which are based on S-100 standard representing an important step towards the modernisation and advancement of maritime safety and autonomous navigation. Related thereto, Republic of Croatia, as one of the signatories to SOLAS Convention, shall be obliged to produce electronic navigational charts according to S-100 standard as of 01 January 2029.

International experts from PRIMAR presented different S-100 products: electronic navigational charts (S-101), bathymetric surface (S-102), water level information (S-104), surface currents (S-111) as well as marine harbour infrastructure (S-131). A special emphasis was put on the practical application of PRIMAR’s implementation of S-100 standard. PRIMAR presented the projects and testing of new S-100 products at the sea in Canada as well as at Baltic Sea by cooperating with all key maritime stakeholders.

The importance of timely implementation of S-100 standard as the framework for advancing maritime safety and interoperability of digital maritime information in line with the strategic goals of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International hydrographic Organization (IHO) was particularly accentuated. The workshop closed with an open discussion and exchange of experience among the stakeholders defining the recommendations for next steps in the implementation of S-100 standard.
