12th International Symposium on Integrated Ship’s Information Systems & Marine Traffic Engineering Conference (ISIS-MTE 2016) was held in Hamburg from 31 August to 2 September 2016. The conference was organised by the German Institute of Navigation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ortung und Navigation e.V. – DGON) in cooperation with the Maritime University of Szczecin (Akademia Morska Szczecin) and the German Aerospace Center – DLR.

The conference, traditionally organised by DGON for the twelfth time, was opened by Reinhard Müller, University of Applied Sciences, Technology, Business and Design in Wismar/Germany, Chairman of the DGON Scientific Advisory Council, and Hermann Rohling, Institute for Communications Technology of the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH), President of DGON.

Invited lectures were given by Thoralf Noack from the German Aerospace Center and Mathias Jonas from the Federal Maritime and Hydrograhic Agency, followed by 26 authors from Europe and Asia who presented their research results.

Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia was represented by Nenad Leder, Acting Director, and Dejan Lovrinčević who presented his paper entitled Towards a More Accurate Automated Sounding Selection: New Method for Selection of Soundings Alongside Berths and Depth Contours.

Authors from six countries explained the latest highlights of their research areas to approximately 60 conference participants with fascinating and excellently designed presentations. The animated discussions that followed reflected the great interest of the audience in the research results.
