Hrvatski hidrografski institut obilježava Svjetski dan hidrografije

Na prijedlog Međunarodne hidrografske organizacije (IHO) iz 2005. godine, na Općoj skupštini Ujedinjenih naroda donošenjem rezolucije A/60/30 prihvaćeno je da se 21. lipnja svake godine obilježava kao Svjetski dan hidrografije (World Hydrography Day – WHD).

Od 2007. godine Međunarodna hidrografska organizacija i njezine punopravne članice brojnim aktivnostima obilježavaju taj dan radi informiranja šire javnosti o važnosti hidrografije u mnogim aktivnostima vezanim za more i priobalje. Posebno se ističu aktivnosti kojima se povećava pokrivenost morskih područja kvalitetnim hidrografskim podacima, inicijative i zajednički projekti čijim se rezultatima unapređuje sigurnost plovidbe, zaštita morskog okoliša, plansko upravljanje obalnim područjem, uspostavljanje infrastrukture prostornih podataka o moru, kao i primijenjene najnovije tehnologije u poslovima hidrografije.

Hrvatska je ove godine po prvi put zauzela mjesto stalnog člana u Vijeću Međunarodne hidrografske organizacije (IHO Council), a predstavnici Hrvatskog hidrografskog instituta pridonose svojim radom u odborima, komisijama i radnim skupinama IHO-a.
