HHI Presented GeoAdriatic as the Maritime Component of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure

The conference “Spatial Data Infrastructure Days 2026” and the 15th NSDI and INSPIRE Day were held on 27 and 28 May 2026 in Šibenik, organized by the State Geodetic Administration of the Republic of Croatia.

Ms. Vinka Kolić Bubić, Director of the Croatian Hydrographic Institute (HHI), delivered an introductory presentation entitled “The Maritime Component of the NSDI: GeoAdriatic, MSDI and Interoperable Spatial Data in Support of Digital Navigation.” The presentation introduced the Croatian maritime portal GeoAdriatic as the central platform of Croatia’s Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure (MSDI), designed to facilitate the exchange, accessibility and interoperable use of maritime geospatial data.

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of standardized and reliable maritime data for navigation safety, marine spatial planning, protection of the marine environment, and sustainable management of marine areas. In this context, the significance of developing a new generation of hydrographic and navigational products based on the IHO S-100 standard was highlighted. These products will enable broader integration of bathymetric, oceanographic, infrastructure-related and other maritime data within digital navigation systems.

HHI’s participation in the conference confirms the importance of high-quality and continuous cooperation with the State Geodetic Administration in the development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure and in strengthening the integration of terrestrial, coastal and maritime spatial data in the Republic of Croatia.
