A training course “S-57 to S-101 Conversion and S-100 Production Course” organised by the French Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (SHOM) and sponsored by PRIMAR was held for the members of the Eastern Atlantic hydrographic Commission (EAtHC) and the Mediterranean and Black Seas Hydrographic Commission (MBSHC) in Brest, France, from 15 to 19 September 2025.
Colleagues from the Cartographic department of the Hydrographic institute of the Republic of Croatia, Lorena Boldin and Zoran Strižak, took part in the training course. During these five-day long intensive lectures and workshops, the participants had the opportunity to increase their knowledge about the conversion from the older S-57 electronic navigational chart data into the new S-101 format as well as about the production and validation of the products in line with S-100 standard. The goal of this training course was to strengthen the competition within the new generations of navigational charts and to exchange experience with colleagues from the hydrographic offices across Europe.
The participants had the opportunity to work with up-to-date software and tools to produce, validate and update the products in line with the S-101 standard.
By participating in this course, HHI colleagues have additionally increased their expertise and have contributed to the readiness of the Institute to implement new IHO standards within the hydrographic service of the Republic of Croatia.
