Students enrolled in the Maritime Electrical Engineering and Information Technology study programme at the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Split visited the Croatian Hydrographic Institute (HHI) on 28 October 2026, accompanied by their professor, Assistant Professor Ivana Golub Medvešek, PhD.

The aim of the visit was to familiarise the students with the Institute’s activities, particularly in the fields of cartography and safety of navigation, with an emphasis on electronic navigation equipment and systems, nautical charts, and navigational radio warnings and Notices to Mariners.
A presentation on the Institute’s work and activities was delivered by Tonći Panžić, PhD, Assistant Director for Safety of Navigation and Cartography; Valerija Filipović, Head of the Cartographic Department; and Captain Srđan Kosmos, Head of the Nautical Department. During the tour of the Institute, the students were introduced to the processes involved in the production and updating of nautical charts, as well as the publication and distribution of nautical publications and navigational information for mariners, including navigational radio warnings and Notices to Mariners.
The students also had the opportunity to visit the Hydrographic Museum, where a guided tour provided insight into the history and development of the hydrographic service in Croatia.

This visit continues the long-standing cooperation with the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Split, enabling students to gain first-hand insight into the work of the Croatian Hydrographic Institute, fostering their interest in hydrography and helping them understand its application in navigation and its role in ensuring the safety of maritime navigation.
