HHI participates in Roundtable entitled “Safety in Tourism 2024“

The HHI, represented by the director Vinka Kolić Bubić and her associates, participated in the roundtable meeting entitled “Safety in Tourism 2024”.

The meeting was organised under the auspices of the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, in order to respond to key issues on how to ensure safety of tourist destinations with regard to current topics of data protection and cyber security in the tourism industry, protection of maritime domain, fundamentals of tahe development of nautical tourism, as well as security and safety in ports and potential risks.

A welcoming speech was made by the Split-Dalmatia County Prefect Blaženko Boban.

Besides the HHI director Vinka Kolić Bubić, other panellists at the roundtable meeting were Matea Dorčić, Head of the Department of Tourism, Maritime Affairs and Transport of the Split-Dalmatia County, Prof. Marija Boban, PhD, full professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Split, Asst. Prof. Luka Vukić, PhD, Vice Dean for Development and International Cooperation at the Faculty of Maritime Studies Split, and Capt. Petar Bubić, President of the Maritime Pilots’ Association.

In relation to the topic of data protection and cyber security, the HHI director warned of serious consequences which could arise if someone breached cyber security of the HHI official navigational data, for example, maliciously altering the data in electronic navigational charts used by SOLAS vessels operating in the Eastern Adriatic Sea.

It was also emphasized that the HHI for the time being will publish its official navigational charts and publications in paper format, which would protect their users from potential cyber attacks, as well as from blackout.

Finally, the HHI director Vinka Kolić Bubić invited all participants in nautical tourism, and marine navigation in general, to use official nautical charts and publications as relevant official data source.

Because of the relevance of this topic and interest of participants, it was agreed that a scientific-professional conference on the same topic would be organised at national level.
