EU - EU/IPA Project JASPPer


 

 

 

”Joint Actions for Sea Pollution Prevention – JASPPer” is EU/IPA project, Component II (Cross-border cooperation), Measure 1.1. (Joint Actions for the Protection of Environment, Nature and Cultural Heritage).

Croatian partners in the project: Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia as functional leading partner, and University of Dubrovnik – Institute for Marine and Coastal Research as second partner.

Montenegrin partners in the project: Hydrometeorological and Seismological Service of Montenegro as leading partner, and University of Montenegro – Institute of Marine Biology, Kotor as second partner.

Total value of the project is EUR 598.339,17, of which the Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia and the Institute for Marine and Coastal Research have EU grants amounting to EUR 251.327,49. Hydrometeorological and Seismological Service of Montenegro and the Institute of Marine Biology have EU grants amounting to EUR 254.541,00. Scheduled duration of the project is 24 months (May 2013 – May 2015).

Location for the project activities is the Dubrovnik-Neretva County and the Montenegrin Littoral (Konavle, Herceg Novi, Kotor and Tivat). General objective of the project is to contribute towards reducing the cross-border pollution and preserving the marine ecosystem in the sea areas of Dubrovnik and Montenegro. Specific objective is to strengthen long-term cooperation of relevant stakeholders in the region in the field of joint sustainable wastewater management and sea pollution prevention.

Expected results of the project: 

  • Establishing the model for monitoring and detecting cross-border pollution parameters. 
  • Establishing cooperation and enhancing the capacities for joint monitoring and wastewater management between relevant institutions on both sides of the border. 
  • Increasing the level of knowledge and capacity of regional experts in the field of sea water quality control and cross-border effects through wastewater management. 
  • Ensuring visibility of the project, and consequently raising public awareness regarding the importance and advantages of joint cross-border approach to the sea pollution prevention. 
  • Effective project management, thereby enhancing institutional capacities for using the EU funds. 
Procurement plan and Communication plan for the project were developed in 2013, and submitted to the competent authorities.
